In 1985, the State adopted a new set of guidelines for recording state record Spotted Bass and the new state record is currently 4lbs.12oz. at Claytor Lake.  According to The Department of Wildlife Resources, the Commonwealth of Virginia offers outstanding and extremely diverse angling opportunities listing Virginia with over 27,300 miles of fishable streams and over 176,000 acres of public lakes. The Commonwealth currently holds 39 World Records with the International Game and Fishing Association ranging from various categories of All Tackle, length, weight, and other variables.
